About ASS to SRT

ASS and SSA files can contain fonts, colors, positioning and karaoke effects that a basic subtitle importer cannot use. Create a simpler SRT copy for a player or editing workflow that accepts SubRip captions. Keep the original ASS file if you need its appearance later.

What to expect

  • ASS/SSA timestamps use hundredths of a second; the output expresses the same times in SRT milliseconds.
  • Text commas and hard line breaks are kept. Override tags, styles and comment events are omitted.
  • Vector drawing content is omitted with a note. This tool does not recognize text from drawings or images.

    Use the SRT copy

Frequently asked questions

Will my fonts and karaoke effects survive?

No. This conversion produces plain text captions with start and end times. ASS-specific fonts, animation, karaoke highlighting, screen positions and vector shapes are not represented in the SRT output.

Can I also convert SSA to SRT?

Yes. SSA dialogue is read using the field names in its Events Format declaration, including the older Marked field. The Text field must be last.

Does this change subtitle synchronization?

No. Conversion retains start and end times. Use the time shifter for a fixed delay or the frame rate converter for a known playback rate mismatch.
